Sunlight seldom filters through the dense canopy of leaves, making the world within the forest feel like an eternal twilight during the day, at night it is plunged into a darkness befitting only a cave. Many different types of prey and birds live within these trees, providing an abundant food source for the pack. Because the tree cover is so dense the forest remains quite cool even in the summer heat.
Prey to be found here
Rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, deer, occasionally elk and moose, chipmunk.
Predators Badger, fox, snakes, coyotes, and occasionally bear.

Rayen could hear the other female following her, and so she slowed her pace to allow her to catch up. Although the tree's shade offered protection from the sun the heat still managed to spread throughout the dark forest, although the oppressive temperature was cooler in the forest it still pressed down on the dark wolf. It was not just the female canine who felt the effects of the heat, the birds songs were not as constant the sound of small creatures rustling underneath the brush fewer and farther between then normal.
Tongue lolling from her mouth Rayen panted in an attempt to cool herself, she could not remember a time when the land had been so hot and could only hope the the heat wave would soon pass. Stopping Rayen took a moment to gaze at a near by bush, its normally illustrious leaves seemed drier, limper then usual as it took felt the effects of the heat. To see such a thing disturbed the wolf if even the plants were suffering from the heat then what would become of their prey? Her only hope was that this would all pass, and that the wet lands such as the marsh and Crystal Falls would remain filled with water.

Upon entering the forest, Aika immediately felt protection from the harsh weather with its shade. Continuing her steady trot, she put her nose to the ground and sought the scent of prey. What she found instead made her stop dead in her tracks. "This is not good..." she remarked aloud as she realized she had stumbled along the path of the territory's owner. The strong aroma wafted confidence, and only the scent of a pack leader could be so.
Picking up her steady trot pace, Aika switched her heading to avoid the leader - she didn't want to cause any quarrels. Aika's nose worked double-time as she kept checking to make sure she didn't cross paths with any pack members. Within the next hour, she crossed the scent path of another loner female twice. "That must be a good sign. I'm not the only one desperate enough to enter this territory. Hopeful the alpha is lenient." It was after she thought this that a tantalizing smell reached her nostrils - fresh blood. Sharply changing her heading, Aika gathered as many details through the scent trail as she could before she reached the kill - it was a hare, chased by coyote, who obviously ran out of luck. Nearing the site of the kill, Aika saw exactly what she expected: a coyote hungrily devouring a rather thin hare.
As the coyote turned to face her, Aika lied down to wait. "Can't reason with a coyote. That only leaves two options..." Aika flicked her ears playfully as she mumbled to herself, "Confront 'em and hope to chase 'em off, or wait it out and hope there's still food left." Laughing to herself, acting completely unaware of the confused coyote and its meal, Aika added, "Hmph. There seems to be a whole lotta hope going around. Don't we all need it?" she asked, apparently to the coyote, who had stopped eating and was staring at her menacingly. Aika knew he couldn't understand her. But she also knew she should give him the chance to enjoy the fruits of labor.
"And a good day to you, TOO!" Aika called after the frustrated coyote, who had decided to abandon his meal. "No worries...it shan't go to waste." And with that, she trotted over to the hare and ate what was left. The forest was beginning to grow a shade darker, and she knew she'd have to find shelter soon. Even though Aika wanted nothing more then to pass through this territory, it was beginning to sink in that she'd have to spend the night here. Continuing on at her steady trot, nose sweeping the ground for signs of other wolves (and prey), Aika set off to find a place to call home for the night.

Rayen had begun to search for prey, her dark nose sniffling and snuffing as it drew in the scents of the forest floor. As the land darkened and the shadows lengthened upon the ground the ebony wolf picked up the scent of blood, curiosity perked she followed the scent as it mixed with that of rabbit and coyote. As she drew nearer t the kill she also picked up another scent, this one stronger overlapping that of the smaller canine's. Wolf.
Straightening Rayen allowed her gaze to travel around the area, moving closer to what remained of the kill she quickly found and began to follow the scent of this trespasser. Judging by the scent it was a female and she knew she was within another's land the trail growing stronger our less distinguished as the stranger stopped or picked up her pace. Predicting where this loner would go judging by the trail Rayen picked up her pace, never even slowing when she sniffed the air to confirm she was still on the right track.
As silently as the deepening shadows the canine moved through the trees like a dark spirit awakened by the arrival of the night, deep within the forest night fell much faster here and if one were to escape the trees they would still find the sun setting in a pool of its own blood. But here within the Amber Forest darkness thrived and its queen with fiery gaze ran on hunting down the one who dared trespass on her land.
Slowing only when the scent grew strong indicating she had caught up with the other female, Rayen gave the wolf a fair distance circling around until she caught sight of a distinct white pelt. Stopping she waited in the depths of a shadow, striking orange eyes watching as the wolf drew closer. Only until she observed the newcomer for a time, studying her build, her gate, and way her body swayed with each step, sizing her up assessing her obvious strengths and the subtle expressions that gave the female hints as to this wolf's emotions did Rayen speak. "It seems I have another visitor." her voice was quiet, like the whispering of a gentle breeze, yet it held a power and authority like unto a hurricane, commanding one's attention. "Who are you stranger, and why have to trespassed into the Dancing Stones pack's territory, and partake of its prey?"
Her body was relaxed, her eyes showing an emotion that resembled boredom as they watched this wolf's reaction to her sudden appearance. Her tail held erect the wolf displayed her dominance in a calm confidant fashion, no trace of annoyance or hostilities could be seen. But even so there was an air about her that told a wolf not to try anything or they would not live long enough to see another sunrise.

Aika stopped dead in her tracks. It was the voice she heard first. That was a mistake she would not make twice. Next, came the silhouette of a she-wolf. It was difficult to tell at first if this truly was a real wolf, for her pelt matched the shadows cast by silent pines. But indeed, here she was - and by her stance, it was obvious Aika had come upon the Alpha. Collecting her thoughts, Aika immediately assumed the submissive role of lowering herslef, head near the ground, ears back, and tail down (but not tucked...she preferred not to if allowed). "Forgive me, owner of this territory upon which I have so rudely intruded. I am a lowly dispersal wolf, whom is studying herbs and medicines, so that I may be of use to the pack which I'm to join." After a pause for dramatic effect, and realizing the she-wolf seemed to be more of a talker then a stalker, Aika slowly raised herself to a half-sitting half-crouching position. Emerald eyes sparkling, she continued "My name is Aika, and I might add that, although I apologize for 'partaking' in the hare, he was most delectable. I hope you accept and understand my apologies - I mean no harm, and I wish nothing then to leave..." looking up at the growing abyss above them, added "...tomorrow. I would most appreciate a place to stay."
Aika sighed. It was always difficult whenever she first meets a high-ranking wolf. They can be so unpredictable. Realizing that she was staring awe-ingly at the she-wolf's subtle (yet striking to Aika) pelt, she quickly turned her gaze downward. Staring could get her into trouble...and Aika didn't want that.

Rayen noted with muted pleasure how the female reacted to her presence, the way she had taken on a submissive posture pleased her. It seemed this wolf knew how to show a leader respect, unlike some wolves she knew. Briefly the memory of Jade's challenging snarls and sharp words entered her mind only to be pushed aside as the wolf continued to observe the new comer her ears perking as she politely listened to the female's words.
The mention of learning herbs intrigued the female, but she did not let such emotions or thoughts show. She knew this wolf had mentioned such a thing to try and earn something from her perhaps even have her inquire as if she intended to join the pack, and she was not about to give this stranger the satisfaction. Giving her tail a dismissive flick she spoke, "I will accept your apology, you seem sincere enough. Just remember not to do it again and I will ignore your first offense, as for trespassing that is a crime which punishment is decided upon meeting the offender. You do not appear to be a threat, and in these current times one cannot help but find any source of water...Even if it is in another pack's territory. "
Changing her position from a standing dominant posture to that of a sitting relaxed wolf Rayen continued, "I will let it slide this time, but if you are caught trespassing again you will be reprimanded and then driven from our land can't have everyone thinking I have gone soft and allow every stray who comes waltzing in to do as they please. As for shelter, this pack is kind to those who follow or rules. "
Standing the female walked out of the shadows, looking like a beast breaking from the darkness the ebony and smoke gray wolf advanced several feet. Her paws making barley a sound as she approached, adding to the image that she was indeed a ghostly apparition born of the night. Pausing she fixed her gaze on the white and black female, her eyes emotionless pools of magma. "I'll permit you to stay the night so long as you do not leave the area unless there is a fire or a rabid bear intent on eating you, I will also ask that you do not hunt our prey. If you obey I will bring you some meat in the morning before I escort you to the border. If not you will be punished and driven from our land with no chance of returning. I am Rayen by the way, leader of the Dancing Stones Pack."
With that the black female vanished into the shadows, the tip of her tail flicking gesturing for the other to follow her. She had already spoken far too much, it seemed that fate was determined to make her speak more in one day then she did for an entire year. This life would need some getting used to, she thought glumly. For years she had enjoyed the life of the silent loner drifting from place to place, pack to pack, it was only until she arrived in this part of land that she decided to settle down and start a pack of her own to fill the void that had opened in her heart.

It didn't immediately register with Aika to follow the she-wolf. Only after blinking a few times, did she realize she had been holding her breath the entire length of her new-found stranger's speech. "Unpredictable" muttered Aika under her forced panting "...as all leaders are." Starting up at her usual trot, Aika found it difficult to follow the silent and shadowy she-wolf named Rayen. However, she would spot the movement between the brush and trees and knew which direction to follow.
It was at this time she let her eyes truly wander. As she passed a birch tree, her eyes sparkled like emerald pools. "Hmmm, if there's birch in this forest, there must be..." Pausing but a moment, Aika spotted what she sought - a small plant with wilted yellow and white-petaled flowers. "A-HAH! Sanguinaria canadensis - Bloodroot. Often grows near birch trees. What a find! Such a shame it's malnurished..." Glancing back at the nearly fading silhouette, she quickly uprooted a very small section of the plant, being very careful not pierce the stems, and sprinted to catch up to Rayen. Falling back in place behind her, she broke to a trot and followed the ever-fading leader.
Sighing with a mouthful, Aika was both content and displeased. Rayen made it clear she was not interested in having a stranger stay long in her territory, yet was fair enough to allow her to stay the night. Stealing a look at the dying blossoms she held in her mouth, she hoped with all her heart that this Alpha would accept her trespassing gift, and not harbor any harsh feeling towards her. But does it matter? Aika knew the cycle well - in less then a day, she will leave the alpha's territory, maybe without so much as a good bye or good luck, and never see the land or its wolves again.
It was decided. For the next twelve hours, Aika would be on her best behavior. She would give her utmost respect. She would do anything and everything in her power to win the Alpha's trust - and maybe, just maybe, she won't have to wander on her own any longer.

Rayen jumped when the white wolf let out an exclamation, not expecting the trailing wolf's sudden outburst. A faint smile curled the female's lips as she talked to herself about that specific herb and how it appeared to be malnourished, and for a moment she contemplated the advantages to having a wolf who knew so much about herbs within the pack. Her build suggested she could also be useful for other jobs, able to help out when ever needed instead of merely being an Opal.
Continuing on without pause the female listened for a sign that the stranger continued to follow her as she slipped through the forest like an escaped shadow. Dancing Stone could use another member, more wolves were needed if they wanted to survive. But she would not turn around and offer this wolf a place in the pack right then and there, she would merely wait and observe this wolf's actions. If she liked what she saw she would offer her a home when morning came, if she accepted she would gladly accept her. If not all she could do was wish her well and provide a small morsel of meat to help her on her way.
Upon reaching their destination- in small clearing near the tiny stream that weaved its way all the way down toward Wanderer's Pass a fallen tree propped up on a boulder. Bushes and all manner of undergrowth claimed the fallen pine, covering much of the dried wood providing a snug shelter for a single wolf. It was a shelter Rayen had used when she first had entered the territory, and now she offered it to this female for the night. Turning she noticed for the first time the plant the wolf tenderly held in her jaws, " I see you happened upon one of this lands many herbs,"She said, " I'm sure you can find a nice place for it near the stream, the ground is soft and moist. "

Rayen allowed a look of annoyance to pass of her face when jade came running at them and then threatened the other female, sitting she fixed her pack mate with a stare that told her to cool it. "Jade whether she be apart of this pack or not, I told you to treat trespasser with patients as you try and find out their true meaning for being here. Not all wolves who trespass are trying to claim the territory or harm us, if I chased everyone out you wouldn't even be standing here threatening this lost traveler. " She said, her voice calm, but there was an underlying edge that told Jade she did not appreciate her coming in and threatening the other wolf.
She was being a bad example and truly showing this wolf the opposite of the Dancing Stones Pack's goals and views, she would have to deal with her or else risk tarnishing the name she ha been trying to build for the pack. "Sit down and play nice, I have allowed our new guest to stay in the territory until morning. Then I will escort her out peacefully. I do not want to hear you threaten her unless she does something wrong, I'll have a talk with you about your actions later, " She stated, turning her attention to the stranger, " This is Jade, I apologize for her, enthusiasm, she was just accepted into the pack this morning and has yet to learn the friendly ways of the pack."

Today seems to be a day of surprises, thought Aika. When the new wolf had approached with hostility, the hackles on her back raised. She didn't let out growl, however, and kept her tail straight but somewhat lowered. Yet a wave of gratitude swept through her when Rayen stood up for her. As the two were talking, she was about to interject and suggest a leave of absence if her presence had caused any trouble, when she realized that in her startle, she had dropped the Bloodroot herbs.
Gently cradling the herbs between delicate teeth, she thought it best to leave the two to their own discussion. "Leaders don't enjoy having to scold their packmates infront of strangers like myself..." Aika reminded herself through a hushed breath. It took mere seconds to reach the stream. Trotting up to the bank, she mulled over the reflection which appeared to be curiously studying her. "Strangers...like myself." Willing away the lonely feeling lurking inside of her, Aika turned her attention to the bank. She tentatively swiped her paw along the grass and felt for cold, damp soil. "Indeed, it is." remarked to no one in particular. Sparing but a second to turn back to the shelter, Aika had to be sure that it was a birch at one point (before it died). "Indeed, it is!" she exclaimed again, only a note higher then the former.
A thin layer of precious soil covered Aika's off-white paws and muzzle. She obviously didn't mind. A very tiny, very round hole the depth of pup's tail had been carefully extracted. Again, being slow so not to pierce the stems, Aika planted the Bloodroot into hole, and re-packed the nutrient-rich dirt in place. "There you go, little fella'. You shan't be in want any longer; this has all the life-giving substances you'll need. Well, here you are, this is your new home...and I think you'll like it here." As Aika spoke, it seemed more like a prayer then a simple whisper.
Trotting back up to the wolves, she sat down as Rayen addressed an apolgoy to her. Lowering her head and emerald gaze, and folding her ears back, she answered, "Please, no apologies necessary. I am the one who should be apologizing. I have wrongly entered another pack's territory. This, Jade..." Aika dared to upturn her curious eyes for just a moment, before quickly lowering them and continuing, "...has every right to be upset with me and my presence. I am but a lowly she-wolf with no business here, and I mean no harm. I humbly hope you will forgive me." Turning to address Rayen (but not looking at her), "Pack members must protect their leader and territory form outsiders. I, in no way, see fault in Jade's actions."
That was anything but the truth. In reality, Aika was furious with Jade. If Rayen has already JUST accepted a new member, she surely would not accept another in the same day. UGH! I missed my chance at a new life by a single day - a SINGLE day! Still in a crouched posture, Aika was no longer brave enough to look up at her peers. She waited for a reply, so then they could leave her for the night - only to return the next day to escort her away and leave her forever. Aika wished for one of them to finally speak, so that she could get this over with. Not that it would matter anymore what they said, nor what Aika said in return. She no longer had hope. She no longer had a place here.

Rayen nodded accepting the female's words with a smile, she had replied maturely handling the situation in such a way as to attempt to reduce any hostilities in the air. Earlier she had watched as she tenderly took care of the plant, such a kind heart creature would certainly be welcomed in the ranks. But when she noticed the female's shift in mood she frowned. Something had greatly upset her, but as to what Rayen did not know.
Cocking her head Rayen thought back over what she had said, it seemed her mood had changed when she mentioned that Jade had be accepted a day ago. Again she was reminded how she had told her right off of the bat how she was good wit herbs, and so Rayen could only assume her intentions were to join this pack or one soon. Intending to wait until morning to ask her Rayen decided to bump it up, she had no desire to learn she had sneak out in the middle of the night for fear of over staying her welcome. "Might I inquire your name?" She asked her head cocking to one side, before voicing her offer her eyes watching Aika's actions.

"I have been nothing but respectful and pleasant to you, and I do not deserved to be barked down onto. If you wish me to leave, fine. But there are nicer ways of saying such," Aika growled in an assertive, but not necessarily threatening tone. She had jumped to her feet, hackles raised, eyes baring down. She was not going to let this wolf, who technically held no rank over her, treat her like an omega. However, she clearly got her point across, and fearful of Rayen's rage, she quickly faced her, returning to her former submissive position, and mulling over Rayen's words in her mind.
A most curious question. It surely piqued Aika's curiosity. Betraying her submissive position, she piped her ears forward and lifted radiantly peacock-green eyes toward Rayen. Unpredictable....aren't they always? Aika laughed to herself. Yet, a lump formed in her throat, nearly preventing her from purring the simplest word Aika had ever known, "Aika." After only a moment's hesitation, "I-I'm, Aika." Her throat dried up as a river caught in the drought of summer.
No longer able to speak, she pinned her ears flat, sat up, and drooped her head. Though her body was static, her mind was a whirlwind caught on fire. Thoughts and urges swirled around and around; Aika had to stabilize her body solidly between her front paws. Taking one big swallow, in an effort to re-vitalize her throat, she spouted in a steady voice that surprised even Aika (for she was unnerved on the inside), "My dear guardian of this territory and leader of its pack, if it's all the same to you, I do not intend to create disruption within your ranks. If you wish me to leave, I ask for you to escort me to your boundaries tonight. As a healer-in-training, it is my expectation and principle to help others. If my presence is..." pausing to shoot Jade a warning look, "...disruptive, then I am not living up to my own expectations and principles."
Aika steady herself, raised her silvery head, perked black tipped ears forward, and lifted her eyes to Rayen's. Her serious sea-green eyes locked with Rayen's. It was the first time she'd ever looked a superior in the eye's before, let alone stare into them. And what she felt both comforted her and unsettled her, all at the same time.
